Mary Licciardi founded Soul Purpose Yoga with the intention of helping people move through the grieving process. Mary has been practicing yoga for 30 years, but decided to become a certified instructor in 2018.
It’s no coincidence that during that time, Mary suffered tremendous loss. It was then, that she really understood how the physicality and the meditative part of yoga were her guide through the healing process.
This grief yoga program is designed to help gain understanding of the physiological response to grief. Mary will teach to breathe your way through the yoga practice and help you become in-tune with where you physically store your emotions in your body. She will also break down different breathing methods that send calming signals to the brain. This in turn allows the brain to calmly interpret what it is feeling so one can, with time, peacefully cope with grief.
Mary recognizes that grief comes in all forms. Whether it’s losing people we love, losing our cherished pets, experiencing physical illness, or divorce, loss is loss. It does not go away and it can leave an aching in our hearts.
Mary’s goal is to help your heart heal, one breath and one pose at a time.
Mary’s passion for yoga runs deep. While she is drawn to helping people through the process of grief, she also loves teaching group classes and giving private instruction too! Mary teaches at several different studios around the Chicagoland area. Contact Mary for more information
Chronic pain and illness can be difficult physically and emotionally. When the body changes, one may go through phases of grief or find it difficult to cope. Mary understands this all too well. She was diagnosed with a rare health condition in 2021 and had to have two surgeries on her right hip in under two years.
The gifts of yoga and faith helped her through the healing process. This process taught Mary how to breathe through the pain, to accept the physical changes she was going through, and to be grateful for what it was teaching her. She has limited mobility of the right hip, but knowing how to properly use the functioning hip prevents further injury to both hips.
Mary healed quicker and better than anticipated. This is one of the reasons Mary feels a calling to help people who want to practice yoga but feel that they can’t practice due to special circumstances or limitations. She is passionate about health and wellness. She will work with you and your needs, modify poses, and use props to ensure a safe yoga practice.
You will experience the right amount of stretch and meditation that will lead to better focus and performance for the athlete. If your goal is to improve your sports performance and athletic stamina, contact Mary for more info.
Mary is grateful to be part of multiple charitable organizations. Contact Mary if you would like to have her come to one of your charitable events and volunteer her yoga and meditation services.
There are many contributing factors that lead to inflammation. These include environmental factors such as pollution or toxins in foods, as well as emotional or physical traumas. And these linger in our bodies.
Reiki is a method of becoming energetically in-tune with where we store inflammation, so it can be removed. Mary has been a certified practitioner since 2017. Prior to her certification, she was seeing a Reiki practitioner to remove inflammation from a past surgery. In conjunction with her Western Medicine treatments, Mary is grateful for how well she recovered and hopes to help people on their path to better health.
